The idea of “hustling” is really popular among women these days. As a society, we celebrate the women who do it all: they work, they cook, they clean, they care for their children and families, and everything else that needs to be done. Women are known to wear all the hats, and while we are pretty dang good at it, we always seem to be looking for the next productivity tool to help our hustle.
When women live in this type of hustling mode, they can get overwhelmed and possibly reach burn out. They go into survival mode and let their own health and happiness go while trying to take care of everyone else.
I believe that women actually can have it all. But I don’t believe that hustling is the best way to get you there. In my opinion, hustling actually decreases productivity.
It may seem counterintuitive, but self-care is one of the best productivity tools (for more ideas on how to increase your productivity as a mom, check out this post). Taking the time for self-care can make you more focused and more effective. Women can still wear all of the hats, but when they take their own needs into consideration, they become more intentional and efficient with how they spend their time.

7 Ways Self Care Explodes Your Productivity
1. You Begin To Learn What Drains You And What Gives You Energy
There are certain activities that light you up, make you feel happy, and increase your energy. Others, however, are energy drainers.
When you take more time for self-care, you learn what activities and people give you energy. You then have all the information you need to be able to balance out the people and activities that fill your cup with those that drain it. Keeping tabs on this will help you find a better balance before your productivity suffers and you start to reach burnout.
When you find a good balance between energy boosters and energy drainers, your productivity increases.
2. It’s a Productivity Tool That Helps You Focus Better
When you experience stress or become overwhelmed, your brain goes into fight or flight mode. By working from this mental state, you are living in survival mode. Your adrenals will become overworked, and your ability to focus will suffer. It’s almost like driving on autopilot.
By taking the time to practice self-care regularly, you are able to sit in the driver’s seat of your own life again. Your mind will focus, you’ll start to feel more clarity, and you will be able to make decisions with ease. This gives you a huge boost in energy and efficiency.
3. You Choose To Give of Yourself More Intentionally And With Greater Love

When you make caring for yourself a priority, it usually requires setting healthier boundaries with others. You begin to carve out time for yourself and ask others to respect your time and energy.
When you set healthy boundaries, you are able to give from a more genuine place. Instead of giving only because it is expected of you, or because it is part of your everyday routine, you have the opportunity to give more intentionally. When you give this way, it is more genuine and it means more. Others will feel this increase in love as you give.
4. You Begin To Experience Less Resistance
When you don’t take the time for self-care, things begin to build up. Both your physical and mental health may begin to decline, you may get sick, and you may face challenges that force your productivity to come to a screeching halt.
When you take the time to care for your mind, your body, and your soul, you can move forward in a healthy and energized way and become more productive.
5. It’s a Time-Saving Productivity Tool
As I mentioned earlier, self-care will make you focus better and experience less resistance. This means that you will actually save time.
Have you ever tried to get ready for the day when your room looks like a tornado went through it? Maybe you can’t find your left shoe or your car keys. You probably spend an extra fifteen minutes or so searching for these things when your house is in this state. However, when it’s clean and organized, you probably just grab your shoes and your car keys and head out the door. Side note, if you’re really struggling to find those car keys still, this product is my favorite.
Now think of your mind being this way. If your mind feels cluttered and disorganized, it’s much harder to be productive. When you take the time for self-care and bring your mind to a state of alignment, you now have less of a mess to sort through. With less of a mess to sort through, you begin to get things done faster.
6. You Understand Yourself Better
Taking the time to connect with yourself means that you understand yourself better. When you understand yourself better, you make better choices.
Think of it like having a map. When you are living your life feeling disconnected with yourself, it’s like trying to take a trip without a map. You might make lots of wrong turns, and waste a lot of time along the way. However, when you have a map, you know exactly where you need to go. Hey, you still might make a wrong turn along the way, but you are going to get there a lot faster.
It’s the same thing with productivity. When you know yourself better, you know how to manage your time better and make choices that will get you where you want to go faster.
7. Compared to Every Other Productivity Tool, It Stimulates the Most Creativity

For every problem, there is a solution. I am willing to bet that you have faced problems in your life where you felt frozen or stuck, not knowing what to do. This is another sign that your brain was in fight or flight mode.
When you take the time to do self-care, you bring your mind back to a state of peace and clarity. It stimulates your ability to see all the wonderful possibilities before you. When you can clearly see all of your choices, and your creativity is heightened, you can move forward quickly and more efficiently.
